The play should be performed in a house or warehouse. The audience is split into groups, each of which has a Guide who takes us from scene to scene. The order in which the scenes are observed by the groups is aleatory until the final scene, where all the groups converge. The cost is already incurred. Better to enjoy yourself. No one under 18 will be admitted.

These are amazing plays that Americans need to read more often. Gambaro is writing about the Dirty War in Argentina in amazing, real, jarring, ways that implicate the audience as complicit in their viewing of injustice and atrocity and their lack of action.
The strength and courage of those who fight against military regimes, but also how they can pay with their lives. The helplessness of the victim, but also their unwillingness to accept exactly how bad the situation is until it's too late. It w These are amazing plays that Americans need to read more often.
It was also refreshing to read something not by a white male westerner. There's also a fantastic essay in the back of this book about her plays. Nov 30, kye rated it really liked it. These plays are urgent. They helped me understand the realities of life under fascism—when theater becomes both weapon and flashlight.
Argentina in the 60s is not so far removed from America in the 10s in the particular inversion of real and surreal. Immersive theater companies, get on this!

I don't think this is the edition I read of Gambaro's play back then, but it will have to do in order to make the record here in GoodReads. I read this in graduate school as well, and I even started working on a paper for a conference about it.
The abstract was accepted, but then life happened, and I had to withdraw the proposal. Anyhow, it is one of the most moving pieces of drama I have read, and I can only barely imagine what it would be like to see it performed. Again, as my journal notes ar I don't think this is the edition I read of Gambaro's play back then, but it will have to do in order to make the record here in GoodReads. Again, as my journal notes are mostly academic, I will leave them out from here. This is definitely one work that I would be willing to revisit.
Maybe, some day, I will complete that paper and find a place to present it. I read this for my theatre history class. I'm sure it would have been much more interesting to view rather than read. Mar 01, Frankie rated it it was amazing Shelves: drama-drama-drama. The only playwright I've ever read who has been able to fufill the dramatic vision of Artaud, Gambora haunts readers and audiens with her dystopic visions of the fraility and fallibility of humanity.
Of note, her plays The Walls and Atigona Furiosa chill, exposing the drastic and debauched reality of Argentina during the time of the Dirty Wars. Frankie says read this!!! Feb 19, Alexa rated it liked it. Short but harrowing. I think, though, that I need to see the play to get the full effect of Gambaro's staging and scenes.
Still, even from reading it, this play does a great job at exposing the really awful griminess of totalitarian government, censorship, and inaction a la Jun 01, Robin rated it really liked it Shelves: plays , read-in , theatre. This collection of Gambaro's plays illuminates the guilt of bystanders and the power of denial, with an emphasis on Argentina's Dirty War These plays are gutsy and grotesque, and deserve more attention.

Information for Foreigners: Three Plays
Information for Foreigners is a play by Griselda Gambaro written in It is a promenade style site-specific theatre piece, in which the audience is led on a tour through a large house by a character known as a guide. The play consists of twenty scenes. Multiple groups of audience members are led though a large house to different rooms and hallways where the scenes are presented.
What if it were government thugs? Would you stand by and watch as someone was tortured? Would you actively participate in torture if ordered to? From the complacency of our living rooms the answers may seem obvious. Politically motivated kidnappings and torture already were commonplace in her country and were about to get much worse. But Gambaro has no intention of allowing audiences the usual passivity of sitting back in the dark while things happen to other people way up there on the stage.
